Why The NFL?
There are three or four great months for watching sports on TV during the year. In October you have baseball playoffs, you have tour championships in golf, the NBA and the NHL are kicking off their seasons, NCAA football is in full swing, and of course the behemoth, the NFL, is hitting their stride. April is another good month while January has its share of great things going on. There are other months when the sports calendar is exciting but none of it is as important to vie

So
It has been weird this past week. Since my mom passed I am constantly wandering around feeling like there must be something I have to do only to realize that I have nothing to do of importance. I find myself sitting in the living room with Linda as she watches one of the hundreds of house shows on tv. She looks at me like why are you here? We have talked about this day for years, the day when we don't have a human to take care of any longer and we can do whatever we want. Wel

Thank You
On behalf of our entire family, thank you to all that took the time to read about our mother and then offered us well wishes. This was the most viewed blog I ever posted and it means a lot to us all that so many of you were interested in reading about mom. As I said, she was a firecracker and she would be beaming with pride to know so many took an interest in her. Thank you again for all your support.

The End Of An Era
Diana Marich 1930 - 2025 The world lost a real firecracker; for Nancy, Joe, and me, we lost a Mom. She was loud, stubborn, committed to her husband, and daddy’s little girl. She was the sergeant at arms for the neighborhood, keeping all us kids in line, and protected, from others that might not have been as happy as she to have us playing in the street where she could keep an eye on us all. Mostly she had rules. Oh, they were nonsensical and arbitrary. They exasperated us

Now I Get It
I've never understood how someone could murder a family member. Until now. There is no way for me to tell this without making myself look very bad but I feel there must be others out there in the same situation that I can help. As many of you are aware, we are taking care of my mother who is under the care of Hospice while now living with us. She could no longer take care of herself alone so we did what family does and we brought her over to our house where we could keep an e

Some News
For those that have been asking, an update on my mother... After her third fall in three weeks being on her own, Linda and I made the decision that she needed 24 hour attention and so we have moved her in with us. She continues to slowly move towards her inevitable conclusion but unless she makes a remarkable recovery, we are talking about weeks. Our goal is to make her as comfortable as possible with the help of hospice. Thanks to all that have expressed their best wishes an

Cost Solutions
I don't know about you all, but we get thirty phone calls a day from various companies wanting us to listen to their pitch on changing our Medicare advantage coverage to whatever crap they are pushing. It is annoying and I feel like crawling through the phone and choking the liar on the other end. But that is not what this is about today. Well, it is about Medicare in a sense. It is also about Social Security, insurance costs, and the rest of our out of control world revolvin

Who's Next
Coming of age during, arguably, music's greatest era means that there are a lot of great albums and songs I've heard and enjoyed. I could list a hundred groups and singers that have moved me with their music in my life but that isn't what I want to write about today. Music, like all the arts, is completely subjective. What I like may not be what you like but that doesn't mean that what you like isn't important and good. It just means that you are wrong. I'm kidding. We all ha

World Series
If you are anyone other than a Dodger fan this picture makes you hurt from head to toe. Not since the Yankees of the 80's and 90's has a team generated more hatred by fans around the world than this Dodgers team. That is great for baseball. Sports needs heroes and villains, especially villains. We all love and are devoted to our favorite teams and players but when their season ends, and other teams are playing on, we need someone to cheer for and someone to root against. It i

50th Anniversary
This anniversary kind of snuck up on me. The only time I think of it is around this time each year mainly because the 25th is my sisters birthday so it triggers a memory. If you've read my first book, "The Smartest Generation" , (available exclusively on Amazon), then you know that I've managed to do more than my share of stupid things in my life. What happened fifty years ago this weekend takes the cake to be sure. It was stupid, funny, scary, and interesting all at the same

No Kings
Regular readers of this blog are well aware of the fact that I hate the felon more than I have ever hated anyone on earth. There is nothing redeeming about this fool and as he gets older he is getting crazier and more dangerous and every single day I wake up and hope to read that he died. But, he is still here and he is still doing dangerous things. As a person that grew up in the 1960's, I saw, read, and lived stories about protests happening during that period. I protested

What's Going On
I'm sorry that it has been a few weeks since I spoke with you all but, as always lately, life keeps getting in the way. My soon to be 95 year old mother had a medical situation that led her to be taken to the emergency room where after taking around 34 gallons of blood, which took them 76 tries to find a vein, and another CAT scan they figured out that the small mass they found on her colon two weeks earlier had grown about 20%. Her options were to have surgery, where they ga
