A Love Affair

Ever since he and Melania rode down the escalator on June 15, 2015 I have been fascinated with the love affair his core has with him. I just don't get it, and I never will, but it fascinates me nevertheless.

This blog is going to be a bit different from my usual anti felon rant. Oh, I still hate him with every fiber in my body, but that is not what this is going to be about. I want to try to understand where his support comes from and why they are so loyal.

There is no doubt that he has created a solid voting block of around 35-37% of the voters. It isn't enough for him to win on their own, but it gives him a pretty solid foundation to start and he only needs to pick up a few percentage of others in key precincts to win, like he did in 2016 and 2024. He has wielded this solid bloc of voters to force the GOP into submission by threatening, and then following thru, with any un-loyal politician getting primaried and beaten by one of his acolytes.

But where and how did this all start?

One of his most important traits is his ability to figure out the hot buttons of voters and tap into their anger, frustration, or disgust on that particular issue and use it to rile them up and motivate them to get out and vote.

He quickly determined that there were a core of voters that were racist and feeling all alone. They were unhappy with the whole black lives matters movement and found it to be a personal affront to their belief that white people are in charge. They also were not happy with the growing acceptance of LGBTQ+ as main stream Americans and the exploding growth of Latino voters and elected politicians.

If you travelled the country before the 2016 election and spent any time in rural America you could see that he was quietly, and under the radar. building a large following of white, blue collar, working, non college educated voters. There were Trump signs on lawns everywhere as I was going around the country for business and driving on the backroads of the country. I knew early on that he was going to be someone to watch.

If you talked to people that would tell you that they supported him back then you would hear the same things they are still saying about him today, they love that he was giving a voice to them when nobody else would listen to their concerns.

They loved that he was stirring up a hornets nest with the traditional politicians and government soldiers. They didn't want him to make the country better necessarily, they were more interested in him punishing those people and groups they hated, the ones listed above and others. He was their champion and he made it OK to call people names and wear their KKK robes in public.

They embraced groups coming out of hiding in the shadows like white supremacists, Christian Nationalists, fascist dictators around the world like Putin, Orban, and others that were emboldened to share their hate filled platforms with the world and this new loyal group of voters. They are also OK with him tearing down the Constitution and rule of law because he finds it inconvenient for his goal of naming himself dictator for life.

The very organized and well financed rightwing media latched onto him early on and gave him a huge platform to spread his lies, hate, and voice to his new and growing base. They not only parroted whatever nonsense he was spewing but they gave him topics and ideas to use in his speeches to fire up the base and make sure they kept up their anger all the way to the voting booth.

The media was very supportive of his ridiculous big lie about winning the 2020 election when he clearly had not. They still won't admit he lost but Fox News was forced to pay a fine of nearly a billion dollars to one of the voting machine companies for their repeated lies that their machines were being controlled by a dead South American dictator and he was changing Trump votes to Biden votes. I know it sounds crazy but there are still millions of American voters who think this really happened. Other right wing media was, and is, still on board with any lie he tells. They repeat is so much that their base, who never bothers to watch or read anything other than right wing nonsense, learns to accept it as fact and goes on with their lives comforted in the knowledge that he wouldn't lie to them.

The MAGA voter has turned the traditional Republican platform and values into something Ronald Reagan would never understand or accept. To be honest this is the hardest area to get a real answer on because they all have a different view and give different answers to what are you looking for in America today.

They for sure know that they just want him to own the libs, whatever that is to them. They also want to wipe out all the woke programs and institutions in the country, again whatever that is or means since each of them has a different answer to what woke is, if they can even give you one.

Covid gave them another value they embraced, not getting vaccinated against it. They were sure it was the government inserting tracking devices so they could be watched by the dark underground in Washington that controlled everything. Today they have taken it to a new and even more dangerous level by not allowing their children to be vaccinated against the measles which has led to a massive outbreak of a once eradicated disease here with thousands of children suffering needlessly.

They have taken their cue from him and now are anti NATO, United Nations, our allies, and have warmly accepted fascist dictators around the world who he has been telling them for ten years, are really nice people as long as you overlook their killing of political challengers or family. But decent people otherwise.

One of their favorite things to do is complain about any company doing anything they find evil, not normal, or against their belief. They nearly put Bud Light out of business because they had the crazy idea to have a transexual promote their product. This was more than they could stand and they went on a crusade to wipe them out. However, today, as the left is taking out their anger with Elon Musk by picketing his dealerships and harassing people who have bought his cars, well, how dare the socialists on the left try to ruin a perfectly good company just because the owner is trying to steal their social security, eliminating their Medicare, shutting down government offices they need to stay alive, while he stands on stage offering a Nazi salute to them.

They said they voted against Biden because he was weaponizing the Justice Department against his political enemies, like Trump. who was unjustly being taken to court just because he sexually assaulted several women and filed multiple fake papers to secure loans and then different fake papers to not pay taxes. I mean is that really necessary to go after the poor man. Sure he was hiding national security papers in his bathroom but so what if he showed them around to anyone who asked to see them.

Their double standard in regards to what any Democrat does compared to what Trump does is so laughable that you don't know what is worse, their lack of awareness of this, or their blind loyalty to one man.

He has managed to turn family and friends against each other and lest you think it was a happy accident for him, it was planned. Sowing discord and anger is what feeds his machine and if he can turn families against each other then it distracts them from what he really is trying to do, take over the country for life.

He has turned his base into a cult who is in so deep they don't even realize they are and angrily tell anyone who accuses them of being in one that they need to look in a mirror themselves because the socialist left has them in the real cult. Facts be damned to them because unless he tells them something they don't believe it. They will happily give you all the f acts they have on any subject from the far right media machine that spits out lie after lie to keep the cult in line. If Sean Hannity says it then it must be true, not withstanding that little billion dollar fine I discussed earlier Fox had to pay for lying to them. (BTW - many of them will argue with you until they are blue in the face that Fox never had to pay anything and that is a damn lie. Why, because it is never mentioned on right wing media ever.)

After looking into this for weeks, reading online comments from the MAGA machine, and watching more of right wing media than I ever want to have to watch again, I still don't have a real firm grasp on his popularity. It seems like it is a little of what I shared here and a little of double secret probation stuff they just won't share with outsiders.

Maybe it is just as simple as they are scared about losing their place in the world order and he gives them a bully to rally around. I don't know but I'm done trying to figure it out for now.

I have more important things to do like stop him from stealing my social security.
