Like many of you, I am getting tired of not being able to do what I want, and go where I want to go. It has been a long, tiring, stressful, nine months of isolation, and semi isolation, as this pandemic has ravaged the world.
Currently we are seeing around 200,000 new cases every day in the USA, with a staggering total of 14.1 million so far. The good news is that around 8.3 million people have recovered completely. The bad news is that many more still have effects from it.
Here is the chilling news for us all. We have lost 276,979 Americans so far. Currently we are dying at the insane rate of one person every minute in the USA and the CDC is projecting that by the time March 1st rolls around, another 200,000 of us will be dead. That means that in one year we will lose almost a half million Americans to this virus.
There are currently just over 26,000 ICU beds being occupied by Covid patients around the country. With people not following direction, and going out visiting family and friends, it looks like that number will skyrocket up to almost 40,000 people gravely ill in ICU beds by January 10th of next year.
Recently we have been hearing some encouraging news regarding the success of two new vaccines. It looks like they have found something that will fight off this virus but we still don't know how long it will last. The FDA is reviewing both versions and hopefully they will determine the safety of each and get them into arms around the country.
What is discouraging is that it looks like the same ridiculous face-off we are going through regarding wearing a mask, is going to follow with a vaccine or no vaccine fight. I have said this from the start and I still will say it, why do so many Americans want to die? There is just no logical reason to not wearing a mask, and not getting a vaccine, to save not only your life, but the lives of those you supposedly love.
I absolutely cannot get my head around why anyone is against living.
If the powers in charge determine that these vaccines are safe and effective, I'm the first in line to get one. I am tired of living scared to be around anyone, for fear they will pass along the virus, and I will bring it home to either of our 90+ year old mothers. If I'm going to kill them it is going to be on my terms. (Relax, I'm not going to kill them.) (Today.) (So far.)
In talking with many of you I get the sense that you are sharing the same concerns. You are tired of being locked up, tired of being concerned for your safety, and tired of not being able to interact with each other like we always have.
2020 will be remembered for the year our world changed. We have about four more weeks to get through before we can put this year behind us, and hopefully have a cure in front of us, that will let us get back to whatever the new normal will be.
It can't happen soon enough for me.
