Normally I would wait a few weeks to publish my annual blog filled with bad guesses but the official season begins Tuesday when the Cubs and Dodgers kick off a two game season opener in Tokyo. This could actually work to my advantage as it gives me less time to second guess myself like I usually do.
My record in this yearly adventure is about the same as if you threw darts at a board with names so do not use this to bet your hard earned money. I will say in my defense that I usually do pretty well with the end of the season award selections. We have a lot to cover so let's get going.
AMERICAN LEAGUE AWARDS
MVP: I see this as the closest voting of all the awards. I think the Yankees are going to struggle this year so even if Aaron Judge (on the far right) has another good year he will not win. Bobby Witt Jr. (in the middle) is probably the one that should win but since he is not on the East or West coast he will be mostly overlooked. That means that Gunner Henderson (on the far left) will be the American League MVP this year.
CY YOUNG: This will be a runaway as Tarik Skubal (left above) wins by a landslide over a rejuvenated Garrett Crochet in the middle above and Logan Gilbert on the far right. All three will have great years but Skubal will win twenty games and have an ERA under 2.75 to lock this up.
ROY: This is always a crap shoot because you never know if these guys will make the team out of spring training. Having said that the A's Jacob Wilson, above left, should win the 2025 Rookie of the Year award. He will edge out the Tigers Trey Sweeny in the middle above and the Rangers pitcher Kumar Rocker on the right.
NATIONAL LEAGUE AWARDS
MVP: This could end up in any order or none of them make the final three that is how wide open the NL MVP is going to be this year. I think Bryce Harper of the Phillies has a season to remember and wins this year. New Cub Kyle Tucker finishes second and then leaves at the end of the year to play for the Rangers and new Met Juan Soto has a decent year and gets votes because he plays in New York.
CY YOUNG: Zack Wheeler above left, is the best pitcher in the National League and this year he finally gets rewarded for it. Paul Skenes in the middle is the next great thing but I think he has a good year but a Sophomore slump in the middle to just get edged out while Chris Sale finishes third after winning it last year.
ROY: I like the Cubs Matt Shaw to take this award as the National League is a bit soft this year. Roki Sasaki of the Dodgers will have a slow start to lose this and Dylan Crews will bounce up and down between the National's and Triple A early and not have enough at bats for people to judge.
So there is the end of the season awards and if history is any indication there will be a few names come in that aren't seen here. You just never know how a season will pan out.
