Like many of you I've been caught up in following the fires destroying the Los Angeles area this past week. The loss of lives, property, and possessions has been overwhelming. Most of us know someone who has been personally affected. One of my cousins, his wife, and their dog and cat were forced to flee their home in Pasadena last week for one night as smoke was surrounding them. They stayed with us and we were happy to be able to shelter them if only for the one night. They were lucky enough to have been able to return home the next day.
The speed with which these fires spread was beyond anything the firefighters had ever experienced. The flames were fanned by winds in excess of 80 MPH at times and there was little they could do to stop it from spreading. Air drops couldn't be used because the winds were too dangerous for the planes and helicopters to fly so the fight was limited to ground assaults that proved to have little effect.
It was, and still is, incredibly frustrating for the firefighters to not be able to get ahead of this raging inferno and to only watch it burn itself out once it reached the ocean. Adding to the misery of first responders and citizens was burning embers being sent miles away to start another fire and another and another until there were five of them burning at one time.
Like you have with a hurricane or a tornado, it is the wind that is your enemy. It doesn't matter how many people you have fighting it or how much water pressure you have for your hoses, nothing can stop the fire when the wind is blowing like it was for five straight days.
As I tried to find coverage that would give me updates on what was happening I turned to anyone that was broadcasting to try to find out how things were going. What I discovered was why so many of my republican friends and family have become raging idiots. This station and these morons make you dumber then you already were just watching them for one minute. While every other network and local newscast was keeping us up to date with the spreading of the fire along with touching stories from people who lost everything they owned, Fox news was spending almost 90% of their air time telling their viewers that Governor Gavin Newsom was personally responsible for the fire. That there was no water in fire hydrants or fire trucks because the state was protecting moths. That there was widespread looting left to go on because the police were told to not stop them.
Honestly I was stunned by the lies, misinformation, and outright fabrication of events from this fake news organization and the talking heads in prime time. Not one thing they told their viewers was actually true. That is a lie, when they said the fires were burning out of control, that was true. Everything else they said was lies. It is no wonder that those on the far right are so ill informed about everything going on in the world. Watching this network for five minutes you can see why we have the divide we have in this country.
If you don't take the time to watch or read anything else except Fox you have no idea as to what is really happening in the world. It explains why so many of you are stupid but it doesn't excuse you for it. If Fox, and the other right wing news media, were shut down we would have less fighting between us because everyone would be getting the facts and not some made up bullshit the right wants to spread to keep their cult furious and stupid.
These fires are horrible. Now that they are getting a handle on them they can begin the process of trying to find out how they started. It will be one of two reasons most likely, arson, or wind knocking down power lines. These are the two usual reason our fires start out here. As for the other things you may have heard about these fires it isn't true because they haven't even started to investigate yet.
Before you join the club of liars and spread misinformation yourself take the time and look for information from anyone other than the right wing media mob. You'll be shocked to learn the actual truth and once you do, stop watching these fools as all they are doing is poisoning your brain.
